Duo Biography:

The Valtchev-Tchekoratova Duo was founded on a mutual commitment to the Violin and Piano repertoire, both standard and adventurous. Bringing together two Bulgarian musicians and distinguished Juilliard graduates, the Valtchev-Tchekoratova Duo has performed throughout the Eastern United States, including several concert tours, entitled "Musical Treasures from Bulgaria" and sponsored by the "Cyril and Methodius International Foundation"; and numerous New York performances, most notably at Carnegie's Weill Recital Hall and the 92nd street Y Meet the Virtuoso Series. During the 2003/ 2004 Season the Duo performed and taught master classes at the Louisiana State University School of Music. Future appearances include recitals in Albany, New York City, as well as in Sofia, Bulgaria.

Pianist Lora Tchekoratova has appeared as a soloist, recitalist and chamber musician throughout the United States and Europe, most recently as guest artist at the Kneisel Hall Chamber Music Festival in Blue Hill, Maine and at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston. At age 21 she won the Washington International Competition for pianists and was awarded the Audience Prize as well as the prize for the youngest finalist. Subsequently, Ms. Tchekoratova made her debut with the FMMC orchestra at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, performing Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No. 2 and made recital appearances at the Phillips Collection (broadcast over WGTS-FM) as well as in Alexandria, Chicago, Minneapolis and New York. She is also a frequent soloist with the Lyric Orchestra in New Jersey and the New Symphony Orchestra in Sofia, Bulgaria. A former student of Seymour Lipkin, Ms. Tchekoratova holds the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from The Juilliard School.

Violinist Georgy Valtchev is among the most prominent Bulgarian musicians of his generation. Ha has been honored with a number of awards, most recently the First Prize of the 1999 Ducrest International Competition in Lafayette, LA and the Special Prize of the 1998 Tibor Varga International Violin Competition in Switzerland. Mr. Valtchev has appeared as a soloist, recitalist and chamber musician throughout the United States and Europe, most recently in at The Edward Pickman Hall in Boston, and at the Courtyard Theater in Dallas. During the 2001-2002 season, Mr. Valtchev was a member of the Gilead String Quartet at the University of Maine and performed throughout the state of Maine. He currently serves as the concertmaster of The Haddonfield Symphony in New Jersey. Mr. Valtchev has recorded a CD for the GEGA label, featuring solo and chamber music works by composer Victoria Bond.
