Projects

  • Salon De Virtuosi

In June 2017, Lora Tchekoratova became the Artistic Director of the renowned non-profit organization Salon de Virtuosi, founded by the late concert pianist Charlotte White in 1989 in New York.

The Salon’s mission is to seek out the most gifted young artists and support and promote their careers by presenting them in unique venues throughout New York City in the tradition of the 19th Century Salon.

The Salon is one of New York’s most generous supporters of young musical talent. At the end of each year, Scholarship and Career grants are generally awarded, often to as many as six deserving artists. Many of those young artists have now achieved international fame.

  • Off the Beaten Path

In the summer of 2018, Ms. Tchekoratova founded the Off the Beaten Path Foundation — a Bulgarian non-profit dedicated to fostering collaboration between Bulgarian and American artists. Her flagship initiative is a chamber music festival nestled in the picturesque Rhodope Mountains village of Kovachevitsa.

Held each summer in July and August, the festival brings together concerts, community and educational outreach, composers' residencies, and performances of world and Bulgarian premieres. Alongside the festival, she established Dar Svetlina, a Bulgarian Charitable Society with a focused mission: funding the renovation and ongoing upkeep of Kovachevitsa's historic community center.

  • BCENY

Lora is a founding member and Co-Chair of Bulgarian Concert Evenings in New York, an organization dedicated to presenting Bulgarian musicians and composers in New York, established in 2005.

The Lower Manhattan Cultural Fund, the Puffin Foundation, the Arthur Foundation, and the Kittredge Fund have all awarded her grants to present and record lesser-known music from her country.

Now in its 20th Anniversary Season, Bulgarian Concert Evenings is a music collective. Each month, the organization presents concerts at the Consulate General of Bulgaria or prestigious venues around New York City, featuring exciting programs and artists from Bulgaria and around the world.
